Alien Language
A week ago a member of the staff was making fun of me, because I use some English words when I speak “the Kuwaiti language”. He believes it’s showing off!!! And any Arabic speaking person shouldn’t speak English because it’s wrong! :S
Me being the smartass that I am tell him: So is OFFLINE an Arabic word? or SYSTEM? Coz you sure use it a lot with customers assuming they’d understand what OFFLINE means.
A few days later…
Same guy (staff) comes up to me and says:
HACH FEKEENI MINHA!!! (Throws the customer’s civil id at me) very disrespectfully
Me: What happened? Why are you so mad?
Guy at work: ما احب اللي يتفلسفون على راسي
Me: huh?
Guy at work: هاذي كويتية بس تكلمني بالانجليزي! يعني شوفوني انا كشخة
Me to Myself: What the hell!
Guy at work: شوفي بطاقتها كويتية!!!!!
Me out loud: So?
Me again: This customer is an American with a Kuwaiti nationality!!! Of course she is going to speak her language!!!!
Guy at work: شكو؟ لازم اتكلمنى عربي ليش التفلسف هذا؟
Me to Myself: what the f#$%?
Me: AGAIN THIS CUSTOMER IS AN AMERICAN
Guy at work: متأكد انها تعرف عربي بس اهيا تبي تفلسف
Me: WHATEVER JUST SEND HER IN!!!!
Me thinking: Why is it such a crime to speak a different language to some people? And why does it even bother them? Is it because they feel lost not knowing what the other person is saying? So basically the only reason why they make fun of them is just to make up for what they lack!
I should have let him struggle with that customer :P

U can always tell when someone can really not speak arabic and need to break in english and someone who speaks perfect arabic but choose to speak english for some stupid reason.
Usually the latter r the ones who speak terrible english in a weird accent, but they assume their english is perfect and the accent is that of a NY native. my fav r the kids running around acting like rappers... pathetic.
twix. I don't see any stupidity in attempting another language even if your perfectly capable in your mother tongue.
I don't see the big fuss. So we add a few words from another language. So we have weird Arabic or English accents. So what?
Now rappers, yes I agree with you mainly because rap is gang music and I don't appreciate it being pickd up by our youth.

ma 3alaich mina o next time he says anyting tell him that the work environment your in.. it is a plus to have an additional language.. in fact as many languages and anywhere around the world.. especially english.

hmmm, well madri I don't hate English wala el Arabic I can speak both of them bs I prefer to use Arabic in general since I am Kuwaiti. Ana ma atkalam English bel 3ada lamma akalim 3arab bs sa3at etro7 kelma bel 3arabi 3n bali that's why i switch to English...I don't like Arabic grammer 3ashan a93ab bs Arabic is more powerful/deeper than English I guess that's why I like it more.

English is universal... u just can't deny that. It's not a matter of hating or liking a language. it's not a matter of right or wrong. If I want to speak English it's my choice, why should ppl mock me for it?

I absolutely hate it when people get like that!
I know people who use some english expressions like "duh" "whatever" - the lame lines you hear in a 90s chick flick, they also go as far as saying "lol" instead of giggling or smiling when they dont even use the computer!! But they still criticize and get annoyed when people throw in english words - they even get pissed off at people who listen to english music! Wth!?
The only reason I can think of is that they're jeleous they don't speak the language as good.
